Building Tour

The Grove Arcade, one of Asheville’s architectural jewels, draws visitors to the building who are fascinated with its ornate architecture and curious about the design, original purpose and history of the building. The downloadable tour will take visitors around the building while providing a historical context that embraces the colorful history of E.W. Grove and of downtown Asheville.

The tour begins at the north portal of the Grove Arcade where the winged lions are located. The portal frames the Battery Park Hotel, now apartments, that Grove had completed in 1924. That building and the Grove Arcade were part of his plan for a completely reconceived downtown. Those plans included his vision for a commercial palace for the people - the Grove Arcade.

JackBPHThe tour takes about 45 minutes to complete and guides visitors around the interior and exterior of the building. Information is included about vistas, significant buildings, such as the Art Deco Asheville Citizen Times building, and downtown’s districts.
